Solar Eclipse

CER homepage spotlight Eclipse 1920 x 1080

Cleveland is in the path of totality for the upcoming total solar eclipse. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and we are working with NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio, to prepare the public to safely view this awe-inspiring event.

Eclipse glasses provided courtesy of the Cuyahoga County Public Library Foundation will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis beginning Tuesday, March 19. Limit of 4 pairs per family. Supplies are very limited.

NASA is also making glasses available at events leading up to the eclipse and during the Great Lakes Science Center Total Eclipse Fest (April 6 – 8). You can learn about the importance of eye safety when viewing an eclipse and how NASA studies them at go.nasa.gov/Eclipse2024.

Following the eclipse, we're teaming up with the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District and Astronomers Without Borders to keep solar eclipse glasses out of landfills. Now through April 22, drop off your solar eclipse glasses in the collection box at any Cuyahoga County Public Library branch for recycling.
