Mary Grimm
Joel Hauserman
Mary Grimm has had two books published, Left to Themselves (novel) and Stealing Time (story collection). She teaches fiction writing at Case Western Reserve University. Born and raised in Cleveland, Grimm started writing when she was seven or eight – stories and writing have always been part of her life. She credits her parents’ desire to surround her with books and instill a love of reading as a formative inspiration. She earned her BA in anthropology and her MA in English at Cleveland State University. She was one of the first students at CSU to write a fiction thesis (the university didn’t have a creative writing program at the time, but instead offered a concentration in creative writing). She was a founder and editor of Ohio Writer (a regional newsletter), and, while attending graduate school at CSU, served as managing editor of the general interest magazine, The Gamut. She received the Cleveland Arts Prize for Literature in 1993, and has twice won an Individual Excellence Award from the Ohio Arts Council.
