24 April, 2015: Three Haiku from “Spring”
READ A POEM
by Joshua Gage
Three Haiku from “Spring”
the taste of a cigarette
waves off the lake
fill in my footprints
sunrise
the warmth of her foot
rubbing mine
dying fire
I let go of my beer
to kiss her
These haiku are from “Spring” by Joshua Gage, from Breaths. vanZeno Press, 2008. Used by permission of the author.
ABOUT TODAY’S POET
Joshua Gage is an ornery curmudgeon from Cleveland. His first full-length collection, breaths, is available from vanZeno Press, 2008. Intrinsic Night, a collaborative project he wrote with J.E. Stanley, was published by Sam’s Dot Publishing, 2009. His most recent collection, Inhuman: Haiku From the Zombie Apocalypse, is available on Poet’s Haven Press, 2013. He is a graduate of the Low Residency MFA Program in Creative Writing at Naropa University. He has a penchant for Pendleton shirts, rye whiskey, and any poem strong enough to yank the breath out of his lungs.
WRITE A POEM
Blend a bit of fantasy in with reality.
Write a poem that tells a story. Begin with a true story and midway through begin fabricating things that didn’t happen. Or begin the story with an imaginary event and work in something that really happened to you or someone you know.
