Cuyahoga County Public Library to hold children's book drive January 2nd – 15th
Library seeks donations of new and gently used children's books to benefit Reach Out and Read and the Cleveland Kids' Book Bank

Cuyahoga County Public Library (CCPL) will hold its third annual children's book drive January 2 – 15, 2018, to benefit Reach Out and Read and the Cleveland Kids' Book Bank. CCPL will accept donations of new and gently used children’s books appropriate for ages birth through 8 years. Customers can make donations at the circulation desk in any CCPL branch during normal hours of operation. Reach Out and Read and the Cleveland Kids' Book Bank will distributed donated books to children throughout the county.

In 2017, the CCPL children's book drive delivered more than 13,000 to Reach Out and Read locations in Cuyahoga County and the Cleveland Kids' Book Bank.

CCPL's children's book drive will culminate on Monday, January 15th with a day of service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of service to others. Students are invited to visit their local CCPL branch on MLK Day to participate in the Students Rebuild: Facing Difference Challenge.

Students Rebuild is a collaborative program created by the Bezos Family Foundation in 2010 to engage and empower young people to take action toward building understanding, empathy, and peace. Students who take the Facing Difference Challenge will create a meaningful self-portrait that reflects their sense of identity. CCPL will provide self-portrait supplies and submit students' self-portraits to the Students Rebuild program. Each self-portrait submitted will generate funding from the Bezos Family Foundation to support programs run by CARE and Search for Common Ground.

County residents of all ages can visit any CCPL branch on MLK Jr. Day to help sort donated books for delivery and write messages of encouragement to young readers inside donated books.
