Cuyahoga County Public Library Welcomes New Writer in Residence
Acclaimed local novelist Claire McMillan to begin her tenure as Library's writer in residence at special event on September 10th

Cuyahoga County Public Library (CCPL) will welcome acclaimed local novelist Claire McMillan as its new writer in residence at a special event to be held on Sunday, September 10th at 2:00 PM at the William N. Skirball Writers' Center in the South Euclid-Lyndhurst Branch. This event is free and open to the public. Registration is requested. Register online or by calling 216.382.4880

McMillan is the author of the novel Gilded Age (2012), which received national acclaim and was inspired by Edith Wharton’s classic, The House of Mirth. Her second novel, The Necklace, was released in July. McMillan grew up in California and practiced complex corporate litigation in San Francisco until 2003, before receiving an MFA in creative writing from Bennington College. She currently lives on her husband’s family’s farm near Cleveland with their two children.

As CCPL's writer in residence, McMillan will teach writing classes, hold open office hours in the William N. Skirball Writers' Center and participate in a variety of events in support of the local writing community. She takes over the post from CCPL's inaugural writer in residence Dave Lucas, a Case Western Reserve University SAGES fellow and co-founder of the Brews + Prose reading series at Market Garden Brewery. Lucas will be on hand to welcome McMillan and share his writer in residence project, the Writers Reading Podcast. After a brief program, refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the South Euclid-Lyndhurst Branch.

Opened in 2015, the William N. Skirball Writers' Center offers quiet spaces where writers can work on their craft, a special collection of books and magazines on writing, free Wi-Fi access and meeting room spaces. The Center is open seven days a week and frequently hosts free writing classes, workshops and author visits.
